| The Minneapolis VA Health Care System is seeking a Dynamic and Committed Physician to Lead our Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder (SCI/D) Center as Director. The SCI/D Center has the distinction of being a regional MS and national ALS Center of Excellence. The SCI/D Center provides a spectrum of interdisciplinary primary and specialty services throughout the Veterans' lives in the setting of a teaching hospital with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. Applications are being accepted for the position of Director, Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder (SCI/D) Service Line at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. The VHA SCI/D System of Care is the only healthcare system in the United States that provides lifetime care for persons with SCI/D, from diagnosis to end of life care. The Minneapolis SCI/D Center serves as the tertiary care center for VISN 23 and serves over 1200 Veterans with traumatic and non-traumatic SCI, including MS with spinal cord involvement, ALS, and Active Duty service members. The SCI/D Center provides a full spectrum of interdisciplinary primary and specialty services throughout the Veterans' lives, including acute care following new SCI/D; comprehensive interdisciplinary rehabilitation; sustaining medical and surgical care; primary and preventive care; psychological, social, and vocational care; therapies; prosthetics and assistive technologies; Veteran and family education; research; professional training; telehealth; Whole Health care, including complementary and integrative health services; and homecare. The Minneapolis SCI/D Center is Commission of Accredited Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredited in both acute inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation and has the distinction of being a regional MS Center of Excellence and national ALS Center of Excellence. The SCI/D Director will oversee full management of the Spinal Cord Injury Service Line. Incumbent is responsible for working with other service lines and departments to develop and maintain service agreements to ensure high quality of care to SCI/D Veterans. Establishes and maintains a climate that fosters patient-centered services. Supports and promotes full implementation of all local, VISN and national policies and directives. Incumbent will work cooperatively with affiliated educational institutions, while also maintaining priority alliance to the needs and mission of the VA medical center. Incumbent will also collaborate with the hub and spoke system to forge and maintain working relationships and deliver timely and excellent care to SCI/D Veterans. The SCI/D Director reports directly to the Minneapolis VAHCS Chief of Staff and will positively support the goals of the SCI/D Service Line, VA medical center, VISN 23 and VHA. Maintains and promotes high ethical, clinical and administrative standards that are carried into the decision-making process. Is responsible for developing both long- and short-term policies and plans for giving special consideration to the integration of the SCI/D Service Line within other service lines to ensure an interdisciplinary approach and a seamless health care system. Makes recommendations regarding all resource management issues, including but not limited to: personnel actions, budget, equipment, space, benchmarking issues, outreach and networking initiatives. Directly supervises clinical and administrative staff. Supports patients' rights, high quality education programs for patients and staff, supports and monitors time and attendance of staff, and supports and ensures compliance with productivity initiatives. Participates in medical center, VISN 23 and national SCI/D System of Care leadership activities. Manages service-level QI activities that monitor critical aspects of care that include CARF and JCAHO compliance. The SCI/D Director is expected to remain privileged and practicing in his/her specialty field. The Director functions as liaison to Associate Director of Staff for Education for UME/GME issues and ensures orientation to service rotation for program trainees (residents, students, fellows). The practitioner is expected to show effectiveness in teaching, monitoring and coordinating educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision. The Minneapolis SCI/D Service Line is affiliated with the University of Minnesota and has rotations for medical students, PM&R residents and SCI fellows. Additional requirements: 1. Board certification in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine, or Board certification in a primary specialty with equivalent training in the care of persons with SCI/D and demonstration of clinical and administrative knowledge in SCI/D medicine enabling the candidate to successfully direct a SCI/D Service Line. 2. Present evidence of formal training and proven competence in leadership, administration, QI, and risk management (for example, executive/leadership courses for physicians, accrediting organizations) for the position of Director. Extensive and proven leadership and administrative management experience is required. 3. Present evidence of interest and involvement in research and teaching. 4. Qualify for a faculty appointment at the University of Minnesota. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, with expectation of participating in the on-call schedule
