The incumbent serves as a Staff Psychiatrist and performs all duties and responsibilities as specified in approved clinical privileges at the Tomah Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), Psychiatry Service, Mental Health Clinic. Duties may include but are not limited to: admission, discharge, treatment and professional direction of inpatient care (Acute, Nursing Home and Residential levels of care), outpatient care performed in person and/or via clinical tele/video, and psychiatric consultations. Primary duties will be assigned by the Clinical Director, Mental Health Service/Associate Chief of staff for Mental Health or designee. Must be clinically competent to perform examinations, diagnosis, therapeutic treatment, be effective in handling emergencies, patient management and document in patient records. Must be effective in education of patients and staff. Must be effective in planning, using administrative judgement and should have sound decision making skills. Must be emotionally stable, dependable, and adhere to ethical standards. Clinician must ensure that regular contact is maintained with the patient as clinically indicated as long as ongoing care is required. The psychiatrist must review and reconcile each patients psychiatric medications on a regular basis. The clinician must collaborate with the Suicide Prevention Coordinator in the facility. The Clinician is also responsible for coordinating development of the veteran's treatment plan, monitor progress and coordinate revisions when necessary. The Clinician must be effective in providing care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must provide professional direction and participate in the treatment team which includes clinical staff, evaluate, develop and implement treatment plans; dictate admission and discharge reports; prepare examining physician's reports for courts on commitment cases, attend court hearings to provide testimony. The clinician will follow and meet all of the Joint Commission (TJC), Veteran Affairs Central Office (VACO), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) and Medical Center policies, rules and regulations. Clinician will be required to utilize the electronic medical record and other computer programs available to staff at this medical center. The Clinician is responsible for appropriate completion of all applicable clinical reminders. The clinician will participate in organization/committee meetings as requested. The clinician may be requested to provide evening psychiatric coverage on a rotating basis with other psychiatrists on staff as Psychiatric Officer of the Day(POD) and may be requested to provide weekend and holiday psychiatric coverage on a rotating basis with other psychiatrists on staff. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 0800 - 1630, May be required to work extended hours to include weeknights and weekends. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
