About the Role

This position offers a unique opportunity to grow with the Carilion Clinic Kidney Transplant Program, launching in 2026. The Clinical Psychologist will play a critical role in supporting transplant candidates through comprehensive psychological evaluations and assessments, ensuring readiness and suitability for renal transplantation.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct psychological evaluations for renal transplant candidates, assessing readiness, psychosocial risk factors, and suitability.
• Adhere to PACT standards and ensure documentation meets CMS/UNOS transplant psychosocial requirements.
• Maintain expert knowledge of medically based psychological testing and assessment protocols.
• Present patient-centered results to patients and families.
• Participate in transplant program planning and case review meetings.
• Provide individualized, age-appropriate care and interpret assessment results accurately and timely.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and contribute to treatment planning.
• Offer education and training for staff and community groups.
• Engage in professional development and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Education: Ph.D. in Psychology from an APA-accredited graduate school required.
• Experience: Minimum two years of clinical experience (including internship year); second year must be post-graduate under supervision of a licensed psychologist.
• Licensure: Licensed in Virginia by the Board of Medicine or Board of Psychology as a Clinical Psychologist (or in West Virginia by the Board of Examiners of Psychologists).
• Other Requirements:
• Completion of de-escalation training within four months of hire (maintained annually for inpatient work).
• Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and healthcare providers.
• Commitment to continuing education.
